What condition does my mobile phone need to be in to qualify for the rewards on offer?
You can only receive free airtime if your mobile switches on and off, the screen is intact and it hasn’t suffered water damage. If your phone no longer works you can still recycle it and we’ll simply donate £5 to charity on your behalf.

How do I send in my mobile phone?
After you fill in the online form, we send you a pre-addressed envelope. Put your mobile phone in the envelope and send it back to us – free of charge.

Do I need to send in all mobile accessories as well?
No. Just send in the mobile phone with its battery. Chargers and other accessories are not needed and can damage the envelope.

What communication will I receive?
You will receive three notifications

  1. A confirmation email after you submit the online form.
  2. A reference number and welcome letter. These will accompany the envelope we send you after you submit your online form.
  3. A confirmation of receipt as soon as we receive your phone or phones.

How do I recognise the manufacturer of my mobile phone?
The name of the manufacturer is normally written on the cover of your mobile phone. If this is not the case, open your mobile phone and remove the battery. The name of the manufacturer and the mobile phone model are written on the sticker under the battery.

How can I determine my mobile phone's model?
The mobile phone model is usually written on a sticker that can be found under the phone's battery. To find it, open up the mobile phone and remove the battery.

Can I send in more than one mobile for recycling?
Yes you can. Simply select the handsets you have for recycling and then go to the checkout cart.

What happens to my mobile phone once it’s been traded in?
If your phone or phones can be re-used, then they’ll be sent abroad to developing countries where people don’t have access to landlines.

If mobiles don’t work and can’t be repaired, they are sent to specialist companies for ‘refining’. This involves recovering the tiny amounts of precious metals from the phone and also dealing with the battery, which is the most hazardous part.

When will I receive my Virgin Mobile Airtime credit?
Once we’ve checked that your phone is in order, you should receive your credit within 5 days.

What if I want to donate to charity instead?
You can choose to donate 25%, 50%, 75% or all of you phone’s trade-in value to charity. What’s more, whatever you decide to give, we’ll match. All the money raised goes towards transforming the lives of children and young people in need through Virgin’s charity, Virgin Unite. You’ll be given the option to donate at the checkout stage.

What if I change my mind?
If you decide not to go ahead with the trade in process, simply contact us within 48 hours of sending in your phone. Please be aware that there will be a charge of £5.50 for handling.

What do you do about people sending in stolen mobiles?
Each and every handset that is sent in for recycling is checked via the national police database for stolen goods. We will inform both you and the police if a handset is found to be stolen.

What if I want to trade in a mobile that doesn’t work?
We do not accept phones that no longer work, but can you recycle it free of charge and we will make a donation to charity – simply pop your phone in your own envelope and post it to the address below:

Does it cost money to trade in my mobile?
Not a penny. We’ll even send you a postage paid envelope and a Free certificate of postage which you can get stamped at the Post Office to cover its loss up to the value of £32. If your trade in value is more than £32, you might like to send it Special Delivery.

Why is my mobile phone not listed?
There are hundreds of phones that we offer rewards for, but if your make and model isn’t listed, you can still post it to us and we’ll give £5 to charity on your behalf.
